What is the ISIC virtual card?
The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is the only internationally recognised proof of full-time student status. The card shows to all displayed, that you, the cardholder are a full-time student, as well as enabling you access to thousands of discounts throughout both New Zealand and Australia, as well as over 150,000 discounts around the world.

We have recently transitioned the majority of cards issued in New Zealand (ISIC, IYTC & ITIC) to the virtual option. The virtual card can be used anywhere the plastic card is accepted - the airport, restaurants, attractions etc. The app is your one stop shop for finding discounts, storing your favourite discounts and accessing your card!

To access the virtual card you simply need to download the ISIC app through the App Store or Google Play. You can then log in using your name and your ISIC serial number with the letters (e.g. S064001123456X). You will be emailed your serial number once your card application has been approved. I've applied for my virtual card online, what next?
Customers with correctly ordered virtual ISIC/IYTC/ITIC cards will receive a confirmation email immediately with the order details. ISIC will process and approve the application within 24hrs (during business days), or contact the applicant via email if further information is required. Once the virtual card application has been approved the customer will receive another email providing them with the card serial number. This number can then be used to access the virtual card via the ISIC App. It is the responsibility of the card applicant to download the app and sign up for an account, through which they can access their virtual card.

How long does it take to approve a virtual card application?
Online orders are processed daily Monday-Friday. If your application is full and complete and you meet the eligibility requirements you should receive your ISIC serial number and be able to start using your virtual card within 2-3 business days of placing your order. How much do the cards cost?
An ISIC, IYTC, or ITIC card will set you back a small $30. Great value for money when compared to the hundreds you will save!
I’d love to use my card as proof of identity, can I?
The ISIC card proves that you are a full-time student. Whether it can be used as a proof of identification depends largely from country to country. It is always best to check the local regulations before you arrive in your destination just to be sure.
How do I access my virtual card?
1 - Download the ISIC app via the Apple store or Google Play
2 - Click sign up
3 - Enter full name and serial number with the letters
4 - Choose a password and enter an email address
5 - An activation link will be sent to the email provided
6 - Click activation link, use email and password to login

I do not have a smartphone, can i get a plastic card?
If you are not able to use a smart phone to access your virtual card you can use the mobile website, If this is not possible, please contact for assistance.
Why are ISIC cards now virtual?
From the 1st of February, 2018 all ISIC, IYTC & ITIC cards ordered via will be issued as Virtual Cards. We are excited that customers will always have access to their cards via their smart phones. With the free ISIC app you will always have your card close by and you can easily check for discounts on the go.

The ISIC virtual ID has been introduced to make student life more accessible and convenient. Mobile card technology and the rise of the digital wallet is becoming commonplace for many students around the world. The ISIC virtual ID can be accessed through the ISIC mobile platform: ISIC global apps (Android and iOS) and the mobile website. We are also excited to be taking a positive step forwards in improving our green footprint as we significantly decrease the amount of plastic and paper ISIC produces.
Why does my virtual card look different to others I have seen?
It looks different because it is brand new! That's right, we have recently gone through an entire brand refresh. It functions exactly as it always has, just more beautifully! Please bear with us in the meantime as we phase out our old look cards.

New Card Design

My card has the old design? Will it still work?
Yes, of course! Regardless of being of old or new card design, virtual and plastic cards remain valid as long as their dates of validity are still current.
I am going overseas. Will my card work?
Most certainly! The brand refresh is being rolled out globally, and as result benefit partners from all over the world have been notified that there will for a period of time be cards of new and old design in circulation.
Why have I not received the activation email signing up to the ISIC App?
There can be several reasons why you did not receive an activation email:

- There was a typo in the email address when you registered on the app.
- The automated activation email message was caught by your spam filter.
- Your email provider might have blocked the automated email message.

I cannot log-in to the app, what can I do?
There can be several reasons why you can't log-in to the ISIC global app:

- You have inserted incorrect log-in details.
- There is a problem with your account.
- You are using an ISIC profile that is not accepted.

Here's what you can do:

- Ensure you have created an ISIC global app profile. All previous ISIC profiles will not work*
- Use the 'forgot password' feature
- If you are still having problems, please contact

*Local ISIC country sites may have requested you create an ISIC profile in the past, the ISIC global App profile is different than the local profile.

I’m not sure if I am a full-time student?
Typically, studying full-time entails at the minimum, 15 hours of study a week, for a minimum of 12 weeks per year. There is no upper age limit on the ISIC card.
How long are the cards valid for?
All cards are valid for 12 months from date of issue.
I'm ready to apply, what do I need for my ISIC application?
The ISIC card is only available to full-time students, so you must be able to prove you are currently studying full time at school, college or university.

When applying, please provide any of the following documents:
- Screenshot of units you are currently enrolled in (showing your name on the image)
- Letter from your school/university stating you are enrolled on a full-time basis
- A student card stating full time/concession sticker

We’ll also need from you:
- Proof of your identity – passport, temporary passport, driver’s license, 18+ card, birth certificate or NZ Police firearms license.
- A passport-sized photograph.

But I’m not a student?
Don’t panic, we have a couple of alternatives for you!

- If you are not a student, but are under 30 years old, the International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) is the right card for you.
- If you are a full-time teacher or professor, you can apply for the International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC).

The IYTC and ITIC cards both offer similar benefits, services and savings to the ISIC card.
I'm ready to apply, what do I need for my IYTC application?
The International Youth Travel Card is for people aged between 12 and 30 years old.

To get an IYTC you must be able to prove your age with any of the following:
- Proof of your identity – passport, temporary passport, driver’s license, or birth certificate.

I’m ready to apply, what do I need for my ITIC application?
The International Teacher Identity Card (ITIC) is for full-time teachers or professors.

To prove your full-time teaching status, you will need to have:
- A signed and dated letter stating you are working there full time (over 18 contact hours per week for an academic year).
- Proof of your identity – passport, temporary passport, driver’s license, 18+ card, or birth certificate.
- A passport-sized photograph.
